Creating a Translation Memory

A translation memory (TM) is a database that stores your translations. Documents, when uploaded into the system, are divided into segments. As you work on a text, sentences in the original language are saved to the TM along with their translation and, if subsequently you come across the same sentence or one that is similar, the system will suggest a translation automatically.

A TM stores translations from one source language into one or several target languages. It is handier to create separate TMs for different clients and topics.

Translation memories can be managed via the Translation Memory tab.

Creating a Translation Memory

To create a translation memory, click the Create TM button.

In the window that opens, specify the TM name and select the source and target languages. In addition, you can add a comment and select a topic and designate the client that corresponds to the translation memory.

Click Save.

Now, whenever you start a project, you can opt to save the translated segments in the new TM by enabling it.

Importing a Translation Memory

If you have a translation memory in TMX format (the standard data exchange format for translation memories), for example, if you have used other CAT tools or received a TMX file from a client, you can import it into the system. To do this, select a translation memory and click the Add TM button.

In the window that opens, click Add and select the TMX file on your computer.

Click Import.

Exporting a Translation Memory

If necessary, you can export the contents of a translation memory to a TMX file. To do this, select the translation memory, click the Export button, and save the file on your computer.
