How to attach screenshots and images to the text in Smartcat
There are times when a translator needs more than the text as it appears in the translation tool editor to understand the meaning in full. This is particularly important when localizing games and app interfaces.
In such cases, the text appears in stand-alone lines, usually comprising one or two words, whose meaning depends primarily on where they appear in the interface. Without additional information, the translator cannot tell whether the text belongs to a button, a tooltip, the name of a column in a table, and so on.
This is why we have added a new feature to Smarcat allowing screenshots and images to be attached to the text.
Adding a screenshot
There are several ways to do this:
- The first is to upload an image file into Smartcat. Select the required segment in the editor, then press the button with the camera icon and upload the file. If you don't see the button on the toolbar, let us know and we will enable the feature for you.
- The second way is to add a direct link to an image stored in an external location in a comment to the segment. The link has to lead to an image file with an extension such as .jpg or .png.
- The third way is to add links to images to the source file. This method works for special localization formats, such as .resx, .po and .strings. These formats have standards allowing a comment to be added to each line. To upload a screenshot, you need to add a link to the image in the comment to the line in the source file. When uploading the file, Smartcat automatically recognizes all the images and uploads them.
